Dr. Caywood, attended Northeastern State University in Tahlequah and
was accepted after only three years of undergraduate work into the Veterinary
College at Oklahoma State University. While there, she was on the Dean's honor
list and involved in many organizations including president of the Student
Chapter of the American Animal Hospital Association. She graduated in the top
ten percent of her class in May 2001 and has been with Animal Medical and
Surgical Hospital since that time.
Growing up on a small farm in rural Tahlequah, Oklahoma, her father helped inspire the idea of her becoming a veterinarian by the age of six. She was allowed to keep numerous kinds of pets including the typical horses, dogs and cats, as well as the many wildlife babies that were raised and rehabilitated with the aide of her father. She developed an interest in exotics when she acquired a blue crowned conure at age fourteen and still has Jackie today as a wonderful pet.
Dr. Caywood brings to AMSH her ambition for learning, evident in her scholastic achievements, and compassion for companion pets that keep Animal Medical and Surgical Hospital on the cusp of new treatments and procedures. She is well versed in all aspects of small animal and exotic medicine with a special interest in avian medicine and orthopedics. She also specializes in pet behavior and has a unique ability to relate to animals and help in problem situations. Dr. Caywood is a member of the Oklahoma Working Dog Association, where she and her German Shepherd, Arrow, are currently involved in Schutzhund training. She is a certification trainer for the Canine Good Citizen Organization (certifies therapy dogs and can help with discounts on homeowners insurance). She serves in conjunction with Dr. Danner as the veterinarians for Safari's Animal Sanctuary in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
